Had a call from Michele, a regular customer of Pet Outfitters with small dogs and she was wondering if we were going to come up with a small dog formula to address some chunks of meat that be a little big for het Maltese.
Good questions, and normally I would address it by just saying “Let Them Chew!” Dogs that would hunt their own meat do not get nice bite sized pieces. Chewing is a natural and healthy activity. Kibble and pureed canned food are as far from a natural consistency as you can get.
That said there was a second part of the story. Michele’s dog had many teeth pulled; she is 15 years old and has a hard time with large pieces or crunchy food. So this is an exception.
The solution to that is simple. Take the thawed PeopleFüd stew you have and put it in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth or as smooth as you want and feed. Simple as that.
But if your dog does not have teeth issues, we encourage not doing this. While they are young, not so young with healthy teeth, we want them to chew. It strengthens gums and teeth and makes eating a little more fun.
